The main components to sonar including the transducer dome, hoist gear, main control console and display. The transducer dome is housed in a retractable vertical casing in the hull and is lowered beneath the boat by the hoist gear. The transducer can then transmit sound in all directions under the boat (as radar does in the air). Fish and seabed formations are then displayed in a variety of ways on the main control display. |
| Correct installation, especially tunnel faring is critical to prevent air locks or bubbles which affect sounding performance. |
